Meet the Staff

Jen O'Brien
Executive Director
Jen O’Brien joined Summit County Clubhouse in August of 2023. She has 20+ years of nonprofit experience including project management, budgeting and fiscal oversight, event planning, donor stewardship, board and committee management and community relations. Jen’s involvement in the Summit County Clubhouse stems from her belief in the links between productive work, meaningful relationships, and mental health. Her priority and passion is to ensure those living with mental illness have the opportunities and support they need to become confident, productive and active members of our community.

She is fluent in Spanish and enjoyed traveling and working in 10 different Spanish speaking countries during her early career in international development. Jen received her Master's degree from the Fletcher School at Tufts University and her BA from Colorado College. She is a Boston, MA native and has lived in Park City with her husband and children since 2019.

Luisa (Lu) Katoa
Program Director
Lu has been part of Clubhouse International for six years and was trained at Progress Place Clubhouse in Toronto, Canada. She also was Supported Employment and Education Coordinator at Alliance House in Salt Lake City. Lu graduated from Brigham Young University Hawaii with her undergraduate degree in Social Work and later attended University of Hawaii for one year for her graduate studies in Speech Pathology. She was a Research Assistant at BYU for her social work professor who was writing a book on the Diaspora of Pacific Islander Americans.

In her off time, Lu plays acoustic guitar and has played for several alternative rock and reggae island bands. She has gone paragliding off of Makapu’u, Oahu and loves camping, swimming, paddling, rafting and snorkeling. Luisa also likes a good mystery book, cooking and creating art or short stories. She is of Hawaiian and Tongan descent and comes from a large family of nine siblings.

Phyllis Sharples
Phyllis Sharples graduated from Brigham Young University with a degree in Education but spent her career in Mental Health and retired after 30 years in that field. She spent the last six years of her career at Alliance House where she grew to love the Clubhouse Model. Realizing retirement was not for her, she spent the next few years in various positions working on a grant with the state on a homelessness grant.
She was asked to come to Park City to help start Summit County Clubhouse in 2019 and has had a difficult time staying away. However, when she isn't at the Clubhouse, she spends time with her husband of 45 years, ushering at Hale Center Theater and enjoying her seven grandchildren.
