Support Available From
Summit County Clubhouse

We meet members wherever they are in life at any given moment. Whether it's finding work, overcoming isolation, or covering an urgent need to be safe and fed, we can help. We have the evidence to show our approach increases stability by working together to create a solid foundation to grow.

Clubhouse members report reduced hospitalization and incarceration rates, fewer symptoms of illness and isolation, higher employment rates and a strong sense of community. Since 2019, Summit County Clubhouse has been proving that people with a diagnosed mental illness lead satisfying lives when treated with respect, dignity and understanding.

In treatment settings, adults with mental illness are labeled as a "client" and often considered "disabled." Summit County Clubhouse has a different perspective. Here, members and staff work side-by-side as partners, operating all aspects of the organization in a team approach based on mutual respect. In this way, a member who has struggled with mental health becomes a valued participant, a colleague, and a critical part of the Clubhouse community.

Work-based Recovery

23911 Cooking Scott & Phyllis.jpeg

"When I was homeless and living in a tent, my path to recovery went straight through the Clubhouse. I used Clubhouse Emergency Funding to get temporary housing. Now I have my own studio apartment and with Clubhouse support have worked on the Mobile Crisis Outreach Team and at The Montage in Deer Valley. I would have not reached this point without the supportive staff and a safe space to rebuild my confidence and my job skills." ~Rick

"Having access to the Clubhouse Emergency Fund meant the world to me in a time of need. I would have lost my housing without the financial support Clubhouse provided. That stability is what allowed me to recover from illness and return to work."  ~Scott

Through work, members build skills, confidence and a sense of purpose.

The Clubhouse model is organized around a belief that work and work-based relationships are restorative and provide a firm foundation for growth and recovery. Our Clubhouse members work alongside staff, operating the clubhouse in a team approach based on mutual respect and find local employment through Clubhouse community connections.

The impact from a work routine cannot be overstated. When Clubhouse members return to work, they gain access not only to a steady paycheck but also to dignity, self-respect, and a chance to find connection in the workplace instead of isolating at home.

Most people living with mental illness prefer employment and independence over relying on the government for income support and medical benefits. However, well-meaning but outdated federal policies discourage them from seeking employment for fear of losing these supports.

Clubhouse is what fills that hole. We are that support that gives someone the courage to transition away from public benefits and toward full employment.

Although there’s rarely a typical day work at the  Clubhouse, work may include:

  • answering phones and greeting visitors

  • administrative work

  • accounting

  • preparing food

  • working in the garden

  • facility maintenance

  • writing newsletter articles

  • facilitating meetings

Social Connection

Social connections inspire belonging and meaningful relationships

Our Clubhouse is designed to help members develop social networks and become part of a supportive community. Members develop friendships through evening, weekend, and holiday social events. The Clubhouse is open to members on every major holiday!

Events vary from month-to-month but have included:

  • Snowshoe hikes

  • Holiday dinners

  • Wellness Wednesday meditation sessions

  • Workshops

  • Game nights

  • Outings to Eccles Theatre and live concerts in Park City

As a founding member of the Summit County Clubhouse and having no family in the Park City area, Scott Ballard finds social events an uplifting and positive environment to be in during the Holidays. It makes all the difference to him. "It makes me feel good to know I have somewhere to go and people to be with at times when others are gathered together with family members."

"The Clubhouse brings me in from the street and the pain and the isolation and the exhausted state of someone who keeps trying for so long. The Clubhouse and its staff, volunteers and donors have given me a chance to regain some dignity and start a more sustained and positively inclined recovery." ~Brent

Support & Basic Needs

"If I need support with my education, I know I have a group of friends at the Clubhouse who have been in school and know how hard it can be, or know what coping skills I need to better manage the stress that comes with being a student." ~ Val

Food, housing and steady work are essential to reduce the stresses of daily life

No aspect of life can be taken for granted, especially basic and urgent necessities. Active members can receive support to get through an immediate crisis or to help pave a path into the future. Assistance includes:

Education: Clubhouse helps members research degree options, apply to schools, secure financial aid, navigate the admissions process and secure disability accommodations.

Employment:  Clubhouse helps with job searches, resumes, interview skills, employment paperwork, work transportation plans, and more. For those needing more support, Transitional and Supported Employment Programs provide opportunities to move toward independent  work with the assurance of Clubhouse support, every step of the way.

Housing: Safe, stable housing is critical in the recovery process. Clubhouse helps members overcome barriers to independent living by finding affordable housing opportunities and assisting with deposits and rent payments as a member stabilizes and returns to work and community. We partner with other community organizations to ensure  unexpected financial emergencies don't lead to member eviction and homelessness.

Interim Food: Food banks often only allow two pantry visits per month. We offer food from our Clubhouse shelves, garden and refrigerator to help members stay well fed all month long.
